Home lab setup & small business IT

Racks, switches, firewalls, and storage set up the right way, for your home lab or your office.

Home labs and small offices have more in common than you'd think. Both need a network that's organized, segmented, and secure, with backups that actually work. J2 Wired brings a security-first approach to both, drawing on hands-on experience running a cybersecurity lab.

For home labs, we help with the physical build and the network design behind it. For small businesses, we set up the office network, Wi-Fi, cameras, and workstations so everything works together and staff can get on with their day.

What's included

  • Rack & shelf builds

Equipment mounted, cabled, and labeled in a rack or network shelf that's easy to work on.

  • Managed switches & VLANs

Separate networks for computers, servers, cameras, guests, and smart devices.

  • Firewalls

Firewall setup and rules that keep your network segmented and protected.

  • NAS & backups

Network storage and backup routines for important files, photos, and business data.

  • Secure remote access

VPN access to your home lab or office network, without exposing it to the internet.

  • Small office networks

Business Wi-Fi with a separate guest network, workstation setup, and cabling.

Good fit for

  • Home labbers who want a clean rack and a segmented network
  • Self-hosters who need reliable storage, backups, and remote access
  • Small offices setting up a new space or fixing an unreliable network
  • Businesses that want guest Wi-Fi kept separate from business devices

Frequently asked questions

What is a VLAN, and do I need one?

A VLAN splits one physical network into separate virtual networks. It keeps smart devices, cameras, and guests away from your computers and servers. If you have a lot of connected devices or run a home lab, it's worth setting up.

Can you set up secure remote access to my network?

Yes. We set up VPN-based access, such as WireGuard, so you can reach your network from anywhere without opening ports to the internet.

What does a small office network need?

Usually a business-grade router or firewall, a switch, access points for Wi-Fi coverage, a separate guest network, and a backup plan. We size it to your space and number of people.

Do you help with rack and equipment planning?

Yes. We can help plan rack layout, power, cooling, and cabling before you buy, so everything fits and is easy to maintain.
